Understand DMAG's Mission

Security of Supply

The Working Group has dedicated several meetings to the issue of Security of Supply. This concept is an essential aspect within the Industrial Base Cooperation between DMAG nations and the United States. Both the United States and DMAG countries pursue secure supply lines for their production of Defense articles to bolster national security.

Security of Supply Arrangements

In this regard, the WG has investigated the Security of Supply Arrangements (SOSA), which multiple DMAG nations have signed with the US. A general explanation of a Security of Supply Arrangement from the perspective of the United States can be found on this page: OUSD A&S - Industrial Base Policy (businessdefense.gov). The page includes a list of nations that have signed a SOSA with the United States, as well as the specific Arrangements themselves. 

Evaluating SOSAs for Collective Advantage

The main goal of the Working Group in investigating these SOSAs has been to:

  • Understand the value of an SOSA for the DMAG nations.
  • Understand whether the different SOSAs are comparable to each other and thus provide ‘common ground’ for the DMAG nations that have signed an SOSA.
  • Understand which positive implications a SOSA may have for DMAG nations that have not signed a SOSA with the US yet.

Defense Priorities and Allocations System & Security of Supply for Allies & Partners

The concept of Security of Supply within the United States cannot be fully understood without an understanding of the Defense Priorities and Allocations System (DPAS). Consequently, the Working Group has invited US Representatives of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy to brief the Working Group on Security of Supply, the role of the DPAS within Security of Supply, and the opportunities that a Security of Supply Arrangement provides for both the United States, allies & partners, and above all, our Industrial Base Cooperation.
